3 Simple Ways to Achieve Your Fitness Goals

Whether you’re starting the New Year with new fitness goals or just thinking about incorporating fitness into your life, congrats! You’ve already taken the first step to becoming more active. In doing so, you can take advantage of the numerous benefits exercise has, such as better mental health and reduced risk of serious health conditions.

Once you’ve started on your fitness journey, however, things can get a little overwhelming. It can be hard to know exactly where to start, and if you’re not clear about what you’re doing, it can be easy to give up when things don’t go as planned. Below, our expert team have outlined three top tips for helping you to achieve your fitness goals:

Identify the why, where and how

The first step to ensuring fitness success is being clear about your goals. Consider:

  • Why are you taking fitness more seriously? What is the reason for your motivation?
  • Where do you want to be? Is your goal to lose a few pounds or to gain muscle?
  • How will your day-to-day life be different? When will you work out? How often is this achievable with your other commitments?

Once you have a deeper understanding of why you’re doing it, where you want to be and how you are going to include fitness into your lifestyle, you can start adjusting your habits to make achieving your goals easier.

Figure out what workouts you like and stick to it

When people think about exercise, they tend to think about the gym. However, the last few months have shown us that when the gyms are closed, there are many alternatives to ensure you get your recommended 150 minutes of exercise a week.

With gyms still closed, you’re going to have to find out which methods of exercise you enjoy most while working out at home. You may even consider purchasing some gym equipment. If you’re not too sure on what will work best for you, you may want to invest in used gym equipment or perhaps get some cheaper equipment on sale.

As things start opening up again, you can try other exercises too, such as swimming, badminton or tennis. It’s important that to find something you enjoy as it makes it a lot easier to stick with it.

Get enough sleep

Working out and eating well is essential in achieving your fitness goals, however it’s also important to remember that you need to look after your body. Getting enough sleep is integral to doing that. Make sure you recharge your body’s batteries.

Everyone requires a different amount of sleep, but on average most adults need 7 to 9 hours. Some people may only require 6 or as much as 10, so listen to your body. If you find yourself getting tired earlier in the day, go to sleep earlier or wake up later so that sleep for longer.
